ADaRSH, Association for Development and Research of Sustainable Habitats, an independent platform for the interaction on scientific and administrative issues related to development of sustainable habitats in the Indian subcontinent was founded jointly by TERI (The Energy and Resources Institute, New Delhi) and MNRE (Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India) to promote GRIHA (Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment) as a tool to achieve sustainability in our construction industry.

GRIHA has fulfilled the long felt need of integrating all the relevant green standards, IS Codes, best practises and latest simulation and analytical procedures into the building design, construction and evaluation process. It has also come along, for the first time in India, with an elaborate web-based documentation, evaluation and project management tool to support the green rating process of a building under the GRIHA System. Any new project thus had the opportunity to be designed on sound architectural principles with efficient systems for fulfilling the functional requirements of the buildings. Any building could thus be rated for its ‘greenness’ on a 100 point score system.

The Present

All activities related to issuance of GRIHA Rating are carried out by ADaRSH. TERI-GRIHA was a design & evaluation tool for Green Buildings and Habitats which was developed by TERI for new commercial, institutional and residential buildings in 2005.
